Hi Grace, you did an excellent explanation. When I first read the story I was extremely suspicious about the rope as well! But couldn’t understand how she would creep over her husband and have a conversation with him if she was already dead so I couldn’t interpret it farther. Also, as readers we need to question everything as well and shouldn’t always believe what the narrator says, in fact maybe she hang herself and when her husband saw the scene he freaked out and passed out. I also believe that the rope is a significant object in the story as well, because it came out of nowhere there were no other uses of the rope, narrator just put the rope right in to our eyes but then didn’t tell us how she used it or she even used it, but sometimes the bigger story in cases like this are the stories that were untold, so maybe they just leave it to our imagination.
